Of the many French spots this city boasts, finding the one that most caters to your romantic sensitivities without slipping into cliche can be tricky, but La Ripaille, a West Village outpost of almost forty years, nails it with grace and vintage splendor.
Nice wine selection, good cocktails. Cozy, hip, upscale atmosphere but unpretentious--a rare find in Manhattan!
Cozy little romantic spot down a private alley. A great place to feel like you've gotten out of the city! Great cocktails, great food.
This place feels like you've been transformed out of NYC. Super romantic vibe. Sit at one of the two bars for a delicious cocktail and order the artichoke dip. Definitely the cutest alley in NYC.
Excellent spot with high quality drinks served in a cozy atmosphere. Bring a friend but a group of more than 4 will be too cozy.
Really nice vibe and super intimate. Loved the live music and delicious drinks.
The speakeasy aspect is a little corny, but cozy setup, good music, good drinks, and if you're in the mood you can even grab a book off the shelf to read
Brick, hardwood, and marble interiors make it a little hard to hear and the service can be comically over-attentive at times, but the food with wine pairings were stellar (esp. the duck). Recommended.

Very solid French with some great updates on classic dishes. The duck was amazing and can't go wrong with chicken or pork either. Start with the fluke or leeks.
Cozy spot in the LES. See so for yourself with their virtual tour! Read more.
Very good new naturalist tasting menu. Menu changes often; I had a great popcorn tangerine granita dessert here.

An intimate subterranean space, a menu of yiddish bites (matzo ball soup, chicken liver pate) and splendid cocktails.
Great cocktails in an intimate setting. Nice (boozy) way to wind down the evening

Do not leave without trying the Salchichon Chocolate! Homemade dulce de leche, new favorite.
AMAZING!! Definitely try the chivito canadiense, my family is from Uruguay, and this one tastes as if it was made in Uruguay.... Delicious! I will be back, often! FYI: It's byob for now
Delicious bespoke drinks and a cool hidden exterior. Loved the beekeeper drink I had with bourbon and honey. An intimate space that's great for a date or catching up with an old friend.
The cocktails are exceptional. It is very hard to find a cocktail place with this level of craftsmanship and expertise. The atmosphere is dark and intimate.

Mm the bison tartar and ostrich steak! this place maybe seats 20 in a cozy corridor. what a little hidden gem of french delicacy. go when it snows.
This is a cozy neighborhood restaurant with great food. Solid wine list and loved the tuna tartar, braised rabbit and short rib dishes. Friendliest waiter ever too.
Great date spot, live music most nights, and half of wine happy hour 5-7. Octopus app is grilled to perfection.
Great cozy cute French restaurant. Try the chicken or steak. Pasta looked good.portions are a good size- towards large. Bread pudding was ok.
Such a cute little hidden gem. The owner, David is a sweetheart. Would totally recommend for dinner with friends. Grab the outside tables before it gets too cold!
Nice, romantic Italian place in the LES, great prices & fantastic menu of food/wine. Try The Plank
Music is mostly top 40 from 2007, which kills any romantic vibe in this beautiful Italian restaurant.
The foie, lamb carpaccio and frisée salad are the best apps. Duck and steak by far the standout entrees. Get mushrooms, pommes frites and green beans as sides. Skip the chicken for two.
If this spot feels a bit like Gemma at the Bowery Hotel, it's because it's built/designed by the same group (Sean MacPherson).
Love love it here! Gorgeous, intimate, sexy space! Cocktails are awesome and proseccho on tap!
Go in through the art gallery, great little speakeasy. Pretty romantic I guess...
This venue is the perfect size and has several nice bars with quick service. Catch your favorite up-and-coming indie band here before they get too popular to play such an intimate club.
Great sound and a nice, intimate venue. Read more.
My favorite concert venue in NY. Great acoustics, w/ an intimate feel. They do a great job of booking indie bands that complement the space. Don't forget to check out the balcony!
Great seating area with great throwback music selection. Did you know they allow dogs? Snuggle up with fido next to the fireplace with your drink of choice
Great drinks, delicious food with a French flair plus great ambiance... what’s not to love?
There are countless little hideaways appropriate for date night rendezvous in New York, but no where else are they more concentrated than on the strip of West 4th Street between Jane and 7th Avenue South. Trust us - we're watering hole cartographers. Just one stroll down the city's most romantic street and you and your boo are bound to find the perfect place to settle into, complete with candlelit vibes and al fresco tables. Just the other night a street performer was playing a cello on the corner - that's how dreamy it is! Even the buskers are romantics.
